About

buckby2In 2003 Pete and Yvette Askey cruised their 70ft Narrow boat Southern Cross from Bollington on the Macclesfield Canal down to Cowley Peachy near London to start a general boat repair service, JP Marine. Their success has now allowed them to return back to the North to take over the historic Taylor’s Boatyard and dry dock in the shadow of Chester’s ancient city walls.

Taylor’s boatyard with a history spanning back to 1845 is one of the oldest complete working canal side yards in the UK.  Pete and Yvette and their team, immensely aware of the yards special heritage and sensitive to the vernacular of the canal side buildings and workshops intend to bring them back to their former glory.

So, if you're cruising the northern Shroppie, the ancient Roman City of Chester is a must to visit with your boat. A city with one of the richest histories in the country, full of wonderful shops, restaurants and bars. One of the most visited cities in Britain. You can cruise right through the city to Taylor’s Boatyard where there are secure moorings and a warm welcome. Situated only a few minutes walk away, via the high Roman walls, to the city centre and all it has to offer.
